The Importance of Editing

Editing is the final element to making sure that the project you've worked so hard to produce during the pre-production and production phases is a success. The post-production process involves compiling the raw footage in a sequence that tells the story, as well adding the appropriate details, like transitions, titles and motion graphics where appropriate. Editing also involves color correction and balance to make all the footage look consistent and to meet all broadcast safe standards.  A good editor is both creative and technical. The talent and abilities behind the keyboard can make or break the final results of any video marketing project.

The creative part of video editing involves making the decisions about what elements to keep, delete, create or arrange in a visually pleasing manner. Technicality comes with the ability to use the post-production tool-set to compile the elements into a cohesive finished sequence for final authoring, mastering and distribution.

We use non-linear editing, and our editing tool of choice is Final Cut Pro. Non-linear editing utilizes a computer toolset for the editing process, as opposed to a "linear method" like cutting film or A/B Roll Analog editing (tape-to-tape). This process is almost entirely digital and employs no mechanical functions except for the input of the video sources and its final output to various formats for Broadcast Tape, Disc or web based rich media content. Editing in this environment allows fast, non-destructive editing, color correction and advanced transitions, keying and motion graphics.  There are alo several 3rd party "plug-ins" designed to offer features, functions and effects that expand your toolset.

Working in a digital environment allows the editor more creative freedom at each step in the process  without sacrificing quality. The process is fast and efficient allowing an editor to look at the sequence in several ways in order to determine what works best for a project. The key to being a successful video editor is creativity, patience, knowledge of your tools, resourcefulness, and a good imagination.

Focus Media Concepts, Inc. works hard to keep pace with the latest technology, so that we have the right tools at our fingertips to make your project a success. We want every project to exceed expectations, so we work hard to stay ahead of the game with editing styles, tools, and methods.

However, our artists and technicians - designers, editors, effects and color correction artisans are the key element that seaprate us from others.  This is our unique edge over other video production firms.  It is the people who use these digital tools that are our most important post-production asset.

Apple will be bringing a lot of their content delivery in-house, but...
